TO-DO LIST FOR NEW CSL MEMBERS

If you are a new member of CSL, then I need the following action items from you urgently.

Get an ECE Email & Website Account

Write an email to help@ece.neu.edu and put my email address in the CC line. In the email, tell that you are a new student working with me so you need an email account as "lastname@ece.neu.edu" (this is our lab convention unless your last name is too long to be allowed by the IT group as a username; in that case try your first name). Also ask to get a personal website quota on the server so that you may have a website with the address "http://www.ece.neu.edu/~lastname".

Make sure that you set your ECE email address obtained to forward all mails to your preferred email address. I will by default send emails to this ECE email address when trying to contact you. I wil not try to memorize your other email addresses and this will ensure that I can reach you even without my address book.

Immediately start a webpage. See mine (which is not a fancy example - spend more time on it than I do). The essential components of the website are contact information, research activity details including verbal and pictorial descriptions of aims and outcomes, a publications list with a pdf of the papers (without violating copyright laws), any associated codes and datasets, and a recently updated academic CV. You should keep your personal webpage up to date. Let me know when it is on-line and I will put a link to it on my webpage.

Sign-up for CSL Email Lists

Depending on your anticipated research activities and interests, sign up to our group email lists at the following websites. I expect everyone to sign up for at least three (CSL + CSL-BCI + CSL-BCI-RG or CSL + CSL-BIP + CSL-BIP-RG) depending on whether you will work on BCI or BIP groups. You can sign up for both -RG groups if interested.

CSL: Private lab email group: http://lists.coe.neu.edu/mailman/listinfo/csl
CSL-BCI: Private  BCI group email list: http://lists.coe.neu.edu/mailman/listinfo/csl-bci
CSL-BIP: Private BIP group email list: http://lists.coe.neu.edu/mailman/listinfo/csl-bip
CSL-BCI-RG: BCI reading group email list open to anyone interested in joining: http://lists.coe.neu.edu/mailman/listinfo/csl-bci-rg
CSL-BIP-RG: BIP reading group email list open to anyone interested in joining: http://lists.coe.neu.edu/mailman/listinfo/csl-bip-rg

When signing up to these email lists, use the address that you send emails from so that you do not create a bounce-back incident when you send emails. All groups are set to members-only so if you send an email from a different email address, it will not get through. You may want to sign up with multiple addresses, but then you will receive messages in all addresses as well.

Human Subjects Protection and Research Integrity Training Certificates Needed

I need certificates of training and completion from two separate websites.

CITI: Go to: https://www.citiprogram.org/default.asp
Sign up and after logging in complete the following 5 courses. This might take a full day, but you can save your work and continue later until completed.
    Biomedical Responsible Conduct of Research
Social and Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research Course
Physical Science Responsible Conduct of Research Course
Humanities Responsible Conduct of Research Course
Responsible Conduct of Research for Engineers
After successful completion of all five courses, save your course certificates into a single pdf file named with your name as in the example "DenizErdogmus_CITIcertificates.pdf" and email it to me for my records.

NIH: Go to: http://phrp.nihtraining.com/users/login.php
Sign up, login, and complete the training successfully. At the end, print your certificate into a pdf file named as in the example "DenizErdogmus_Certificate_ProtectingHumanResearchParticipants.pdf" and email it to me for my records. This training might take a few hours.
